Dear Mark
Thank you and Marjorie for coming on Monday – there were so many family
members and friends who travelled from far and wide that I’m sorry I did not
get around to seeing everyone, and particularly some from the De Laune. I
shall be grateful if you could just put a note in the next DLN for me please.
Many thanks.
“Very many thanks to those members who sent their condolences, kind
messages and cards, some being from abroad, also the friends who came to
Don’s funeral on 3rd September. I apologise for not getting around to speak
to you all but my thanks to those who kindly attended. Don’s very sudden
and unexpected passing has been a terrible shock to myself and family. Your
thoughts were very much appreciated.”
Best wishes

meeting held at The Nelson Institute in Walworth, southeast London. At that
time he was living at 102 Camberwell New Road, SE5. The following year he
was selected to represent the club at the De Laune Open ‘25’, together with
Jack Zarfas and Ken Elliot, with Brian Gunnell being the reserve rider. 1947
was a good year for the De Laune as Jack Young, Charlie Carlton and Ken
Fuller all joined that year.
At the beginning of 1949 Don was elected as General Hon Secretary, a
position he held for the next five years. This was to be the precursor for him
