Bert or Alf as we knew him in the late
40s/50s passed away after a very long
                                          illness.

Alf join the club in 1948 at the age of 15
and was soon a regular on club runs and
the first mention of him in the DLN was
that he came second in the club Hill
Climb that year on Brasted Hill with a
time of 2m 19s just 5sec behind the
winner at the age of 15 in his first
                                          competition.

In 1949 Alf was riding Time Trials and
track events and returned a time of

27:54 in the clubs junior 10 and in the
last meeting of the year at Herne Hill
had his first win in the Junior 3 mile
race. In 1950 he was elected to the
clubs committee. In 1951 Alf was called
to do his National Service in the RAF
but did manage to get away a few time
to partake in cycling events, I can fined
no mention of Alf in the DLN’s after 1955.

Alf and I were both born in Brixton and
attended the same Junior school, Alf
lived just along the road from the school
at 2 Effra Parade above the shop by
the named Coysh which was a hardware
