I think) she crashed. She speaks in much more positive terms
about Herne Hill so perhaps without it, she might have stopped.!

There are some very interesting anecdotes – imagine riding a
worlds level team pursuit and finding your bars/stem have worked
loose and you can’t use them to steer…. Not the end of the world
in an individual pursuit perhaps but a recipe for disaster in the
high-speed precision machine that is a team pursuit squad.. –

time to steer through the off the front and back on at the end
using only body-weight shifts… but crossing the “cote d’azur” at
the end of the race and stopping is a different problem..!

I’m not going to spoil your fun – read the book, you won’t regret it.

How to ride a fast 100 miles

On looking through some old result sheets last week I came
across the result of the Goodmayes 100 held in 1983 – I know
that may be before some of our current membership were

interested in cycling – but laid out below are some interesting
facts. Thankfully the Goodmayes had timed everyone at
25,50,75 and 100 miles so we all had plenty of information to
study the following week. The course was based on the A.12
before it became a traffic laden motorway type highway as it is

       today.
The overall winner was the top rider of the day Ian Cammish – he
set competition record with a sparkling ride of 3.31.53.
