Just seen a new cycle safety campaign has been launched – “Stay
wider of the rider”. Great to have more awareness – had two close
calls this morning on the way in to work. Not altogether unusual,
sadly.
Apparently there’s a lunar eclipse tonight, but it looks like most
of us won’t get to see it, as the skies are overcast or rainy for
the first time in over 7 weeks. Apologies to those living out west
or north, for whom the run of amazing weather has not been so
consistent.
There is meant to be a return to heat during next week, but quite
a strong chance of some heavy rain over the weekend. It won’t be
the first time the has taken place in really
heavy rain – in 2014 storm Bertha caused the event to be cut
short. Best of luck to Debbie Valentine, who’s doing the main ride,
and of course anyone else I wasn’t aware of.
There’s a great supporting cast of races and other events on
Saturday, which seems to grow every year. With a prize fund of
EUR100,000 is the RideLondon Classique, which is now the
biggest one-day prizelist on the women’s calendar. There’s also
some Youth and BMX racing at VeloPark, Brompton World
Championships (Lycra not permitted), and some hand-cycling
events.
Having just written all this I realise that while it’s in the future
for me now, it may be in the past by the time you read it. Hope
you got to see some of it anyway!
