THE THOMAS DELAUNE ARTICLE IN THE DLN DECEMBER
ISSUE WAS ATTACKED BY GREMLINS AND THE 3 RD
PARAGRAPH WENT MISSING.
Thomas challenged this and wrote his ‘Plea for the nonconformist’, but
unfortunately part of it was construed as libel, and he eventually ended up in
th
Newgate Prison on 30 Nov. 1683. At his trial he was convicted of publishing
a false and seditious libel and fined £75, to find security for good behaviour
for six months and to have his books publicly burnt by the hangman.
